The brief
rewnd sells supplements aimed at long-term health, in a market where the brand and the science behind it matter as much as the product. They were on Shopify and wanted to keep the parts of Shopify that work, the cart, checkout and inventory, while losing the parts that hold a brand back: a theme that looks like every other store and loads slowly.
The challenge
A standard Shopify theme is a compromise. You inherit its markup, its speed and its limits on how the brand can look and behave. For a brand built on trust and detail, that compromise shows. We needed full control of the front end without rebuilding the commerce engine from scratch.
What we built
We took rewnd headless with Shopify Hydrogen. Shopify still handles the shop logic; the storefront is a hand-coded React front end that talks to Shopify over its Storefront API. That split means the front end is lighter and faster than a typical theme, the design is exactly what we drew rather than what a theme allowed, and the commerce side stays reliable and familiar to the team running it.
- Designed a bespoke storefront that does not read like a Shopify theme
- Hand-coded the front end in React on Hydrogen, far lighter than a theme
- Kept all shop logic, checkout and inventory in Shopify
- Built the product and content pages to be readable by search and AI
The result
In its first year, rewnd passed £200k in revenue on this storefront. It feels bespoke, it is noticeably lighter and faster than the Shopify theme it replaced, and it is built on clean, structured markup that search engines and AI search can read. The team keeps managing products and orders inside Shopify exactly as before, so nothing about day-to-day running got harder.
A headless commerce store is judged on different ground to a brochure site: it carries the cart, the checkout and Shopify's own scripts, so a perfect mobile score is not the point. The win here is a fast, bespoke storefront the brand owns and can grow into, rather than a theme it has to work around.
